Reaching New Heights: An Intricate Giraffe Book Fold
Hi everyone!
I am absolutely over the moon to share my latest completed project. I have been wanting to tackle this specific design for a while now, and I am so thrilled with how this stunning giraffe turned out!
The Design: Less is More
For this particular piece, the choice of the physical book was incredibly important. Usually, I reach for quite a thick volume around 500 pages, but for this giraffe, I intentionally chose a book that was smaller than normal, coming in at just 330 pages.
Because the defining feature of a giraffe is its elegant, towering neck, I felt it was crucial to really show off that height. If I had used the larger, thicker books that I normally use, the design would have stretched horizontally, making the giraffe look far too wide! This narrower page count keeps the proportions absolutely perfect.

The Build: Intricate Cuts and Card Stock
This pattern is wonderfully intricate, filled with beautiful swirling lines and detailed mandala-like patterns within the animal’s silhouette. To bring this complex design to life, I used my trusty scissors for a standard cut and fold with a 180 fold .
To make those gorgeous, intricate details truly pop, I coloured with black card stock inserted directly into the folds. The stark contrast of the black card against the white pages highlights every single intricate swirl perfectly.

Smooth Sailing and What’s Next
Sometimes with a pattern this detailed, you expect a few headaches, but honestly, there were no real obstacles or setbacks on this build at all! The whole process was incredibly smooth and relaxing from start to finish.
I am absolutely over the moon at how this turned out. It is such a striking piece! In fact, I loved this process so much that I already have a few other animals lined up to create in this exact same design style, which I am really looking forward to tackling next.
