The Halloween Crow Book Fold

Hi everyone!

As we get closer to the end of October, I wanted to share my main spooky make for the season. Following up on the cute ghost duo, I decided to tackle something a little darker and more atmospheric: a stunning, intricate crow holding a lantern.

Meeting the Crow

I will be completely honest with you all—I am actually absolutely terrified of crows! However, when I found this specific design, I just knew I had to make it. The image of the crow perched on a gnarled branch with the lantern hanging from its beak captures that classic, eerie autumn feeling so brilliantly. Despite my fear, I thought this was the perfect design for this year’s Halloween book.

The Build: Tiny Cuts and Patience

To create this detailed scene, I used my standard cut and fold with a 180 fold.

The design itself is highly intricate, especially around the texture of the feathers, the branches, and the delicate lines of the lantern. This meant there were lots of tiny cuts involved. Unfortunately, I have been dealing with a bit of a crafting injury recently, which meant this particular book took quite a while to complete! I had to take my time and pace myself with my scissors, but the slow progress was entirely worth it.

To bring this spooky design to life, I inserted crisp black card stock into the folds. The heavy contrast of the black card creates a striking look that really suits the Halloween theme.

The Final Result

Despite the injury slowing my usual pace down, the actual process of folding this was an absolute joy. There were no real problems or setbacks with the pattern itself, and everything came together beautifully.

I am incredibly happy with how this one turned out, and it feels like the perfect, slightly terrifying addition to my autumn crafting collection. If you fancy braving this detailed design for yourself, the pattern is available to buy over on my Etsy shop right here:
